After going 2-10 to start the 2023 regular season, Phoenix Mercury HC Vanessa Nygaard has been relieved of her duties. A tough way to leave a team but on the other hand, it could end up being a blessing in disguise. Nygaard posted a 17-33 record (0-2 in playoffs) in her two seasons at the helm after taking over for a team that had made the WNBA Finals a season prior.
Before her days at Phoenix, we enjoyed coach on the sidelines at Windward of Los Angeles. She built one of the premiere HS Hoop teams in the State of California. Talk about pulling strings and rabbits from her hat, she got the most out of her players. That was the norm for Windward under Coach Nygaard during here tenure. It was a beautiful thing to see! Although we are disappointed you didn’t achieve the success you wanted while runnin’ the show for the Mercury, we would love to see you back on the sidelines on the HS Hoops circuit. Hope to see you soon coach!!
