On The Radar Hoops Tip Off Classic
Newton Rams 83 vs Norcross Blue Devils 67
November 20, 2021
The Newton Rams improve to 2-0 with the win over Norcross to cement themselves as the team to beat in the Peach State this season. It’s still a bit early and teams are still figuring things out, but the Newton Rams are, for sure, built different.

It didn’t take Newton long to impose their will on Norcross during the On The Radar Hoops Tip Off Classic. Although Norcross does have a solid group of young men who brought their A-game, Newton has depth at each position and everyone is willing to step up and make plays. The Rams kept the lead from start to finish and answered every run that Norcross could muster.

Stephon Castle finished with a game high 22 points. The 2023 6’6 ‘True PG’ UConn commit reads the floor like the best of them. Because of his size and ability to play the 1, 2, and 3 positions effectively and efficiently, he continues to be a serious problem for opposing teams. You pretty much know what you’re going to get out of this young man’s game each and every night, because of the consistency he brings to the table.

Indiana commit Jakai Newton was efficient as well, giving hoop fans a sense that he wants to make all of his opportunities count as he continues to put pressure on defenses with his relentless motor. With his ability to break defenders down and pull up from mid to beyond the arc or shimmy his way to the bucket and finish with power (because of his NBA ready frame), this young hooper is making a statement every time he steps on the court. He was sensational in his second outing since his verbal commitment to Indiana, dropping 19 points on a big stage.

Georgia commit Qua Brown was the Swiss-Army Knife that we are used to seeing. He had a couple of dunks, his mid range attack was working, and his stroke from long range was nice and clean. That usually means Qua is locked in and ready to rock and roll. The Georgia commit continues to polish his skills each time he hits the hardwood. As he continues to find his niche on the court, look for Qua to have a break out season at some point where all the pieces eventually come together.

The supporting cast has been key to Newton’s success. They have solid role players who come in and contribute off the bench such as 2023 Guards Marcus Whitlock and Ashton Pennamon. The chemistry that the team plays with is second to none. This group is special. Don’t sleep on Newton this season ’cause if you do, you will be up tossing and turning all night long.
