Back Court Running Mates

We know, we know. It’s a bit early to take a look at the 2018-19 campaign with the AAU summer circuit in full motion.  With that being said, here’s a few stud- muffins who’ll look to take their team to the promise land next season.

Ashley Orozco & Mia Manzano
Alemany High School
Seniors – 2019

These two right here!  Talk about an extension of their coach and you begin to talk big about these two back court running mates. Ashley & Mia have the passion, drive, and skills to wreak havoc on opposing back courts, at any given moment during the course of a game.  The two showed up and out during the 2018 War on the Floor showcase June 8, 2018, letting those in attendance know that Alemany will bring a lot of Mixtape action for those interested in getting some highlights.  The two are special.  Having become battle tested over the course of their high school careers, that should put a stamp of approval on many games this season – catapulting Alemany back into the spotlight and a serious threat to bring home a ‘Ship during the 2018-19 season.

India Otto & Charisma Osborne (Updated 6/18)
Windward High
Seniors – 2019

Coming off an incredible run where Windward captured Open Division Titles, won their last 19 games of the season, and now can pop their collar with a USA Basketball Team Member on their squad in the likes of Charisma Osborne (U17 2018 Selection), Windward will look to run the table next season, for a mystical three-peat. India Otto stepped up and out during last season, showing solid skills at the 2G position. India is just the compliment Charisma needs – someone who spots up and knocks down the long range jumper, keeping defenses honest and allowing Charisma to pick and choose her moments to operate withing the key and become special. India will need to show she can handle opposing pressure with the rock in her hands during her senior campaign, to alleviate some of the defensive pressure we anticipate clubs applying on Windward.  Working on those handles and being poised with the rock is what we would like to see India focus on.

Charisma not only out performs her opponent skillfully, but she has mastered the mental aspect of the game as well.  Showing focus and a feel for the game that allows her to defeat opponents by being a ‘mover and shaker’ mentally out there on the court.  Rest assured if all pans out, we’ll be looking at Charisma suiting up in the WNBA, testing her skills against the best of the best.

Vanessa De Jesus & Ashley Chevalier
Sierra Canyon High
Juniors – 2020

Vanessa and Ashley shared back court responsibilities last year for the Trailblazers and did a very good job developing their working relationship out there on the court.  Vanessa had to sit the first part of the season due to CIF transfer rules but when she suited up, she brought instant showtime to games. She’s flashy enough at this point to garner serious looks from major D1 recruiters.  The two play upper level AAU ball so I’m assuming their skills will only get better as the next two years unfold.  Ashley should get a quick boost from mom, who just landed the Pierce College Women’s JC gig.  That should definitely allow her to talk X’s and O’s with mom while sitting at the dinner table.  Should be interesting seeing the development of these two young ladies, and how far they can carry the Trailblazers on their back the next two years.
