Big time players, make big time plays, in big time games.

This evening should be no different as we take a look at two of the premier high school programs on the Girls Socal high school hoops circuit.  Windward comes in ranked #5 in the state, #9 nationally.  Harvard Westlake sits at #4, #8 nationally.  Good Lord!  Two powerhouses collide to see who can step their game up and become special on the biggest stage thus far during the 2017-18 campaign.

focusPopscout Girls Player of the Year

Windward PG Charisma Osborne – only a Jr. – has scooped up the Popscout Girls player of the year award.  This young lady is truly special, showing passion and skills – as a junior, that will make her a 5 star, top 5 recruit next season.  Not quite sure who introduced her to the game of basketball but whoever did, thanks.  If I were a parent, I would be picking this young ladies mind to find out what makes her tick, who’s helping her develop her game, and what I can do to get my child to follow in her footsteps.  When the going gets tough, look for Charisma to step her game up, almost willing her team to victory.

We like the supporting cast as well.  Windward’s coaching staff does an impeccable job at empowering their players, allowing them to play through their mistakes, and ultimately figuring things out.  Great way to teach the game of basketball:  allow your players to learn the game and work through their mistakes versus pulling them out and berating them on the sidelines.  Kudos Coach Nygaard and your coaching staff for allowing players to truly grow – becoming confident in what they do out there on the court.

Jayla and Jayda Ruffus-Milner are stud muffins. The dynamic duo will be hard to stop this season for the Wolverines. The two have punched their ticket to Pepperdine. Image taken last year (2016) at the Palisades Beach Invitational Tourney.

Wonder twin powers activate.

Jayda and Jayla Ruffus-milner appear to take the game of basketball personally.  The two have been playing together since their Millikan middle school days, having developed a player bond that’s unique – to say the least.  The sister combo – headed to Pepperdine – show grit, high IQ, and the uncanny knack at finishing games.   Crunch time super heroes who slide into their superhero outfits each time they step on the court.  It’s going to be a great match-up seeing which twin can alter the play of Charisma.

Don’t sleep on The Wolverines who’ve become battle tested over the last few years, willing to step out of State to test the waters and in turn,  truly gauging their level of play against national powerhouses.  The results come in handy during championship play – when the marbles are on the line.  Look for both teams to come out ‘guns a blazing’ in hopes of setting a tone early on.  If either team gets into a shooting slump, it could result in them licking their wounds and preparing for State playoffs next week.
