Etiwanda (21-1, 4-0) @ Damien (19-3, 3-1) 6:30pm
Damien comes in grinning from ear to ear after dismantling Los Altos by a score of 99-63, during the Southern CA Shootout at Damien High Jan 20, 2018. The back-court running mates of Cameron Shelton and Elijah McCullough will need to be on their best behavior tonight, in hopes of coming away with the W over an Etiwanda ball-club that hasn’t missed a beat. The Eagles come in as the #3 ranked team in the State, #10 nationally per Maxpreps. Look for 6’7 Sr. W Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine) and 6’3 Sr. PG Elijah Harkless to show up and out, catapulting their squad to victory and keeping Etiwanda in first place of the Baseline league. Damien Head Coach Mike LeDuc who picked up his 900th coaching victory, might be the deciding factor, having the luxury of coaching so many contests thus allowing him to pull from his bag of tricks.
Crossroads (10-7) @ Sierra Canyon (14-3) 7:15pm
It should be some above the rim action tonight as Crossroads heads to Chatsworth, CA taking on a fully loaded Sierra Canyon ball-club. Word on the street is that Arizona commit Shareef O’Neal is a bit bummed about his snub from the McDonald’s All American game. He’s been seen on social media taking out his frustration on his opponents by catching lobs and doing acrobatic dunks. The Trailblazers might have a thing or two to say about that, as they too have been seen throwing labs to Cassius Stanley and on any given night, allowing K. Mart, D. Wash, and Little Scottie to enter beast mode, giving Sierra Canyon several option to choose from as they seek a CIF-SS title under first year coach Andre Chevalier. If push comes to shove, watch for PG Darrel DJ Houston to become special for Crossroads, keeping them in contention and possibly coming away with the win.
Windward (14-8) @ Brentwood (14-5) 7pm
UCLA commit Jules Bernard was in beast mode against Sierra Canyon (1-23-18), putting Windward on his back and almost coming away with an overtime W (70-68). He’s special enough to be considered for player of the year and has the intangibles to put in work for UCLA as a freshman next Fall. Look for Brentwood and their home-court advantage to be a formidable opponent. Coach Ryan ‘Moose’ Bailey and his staff always have their kids compete, making it a contest when crunch time approaches. Tonight should be no different as both teams look to keep pace in the Gold Coast league with hopes of dethroning Sierra Canyon. Sharp shooter Charley Wadler provides the long distance bow and arrow support needed to keep defenses honest. 6’6 Jr. W Braelee Albert, who’s rounding into top playing shape after missing games due to injury is a utility player (jack of all trades so to speak) who does a lot for their ball club. If this young man can enter the zone and become thirsty, it might be light out and a long bus ride home for Windward. The joint will be jumpin’ tonight in Brentwood.
