Ribet Academy Fighting Frogs (21-2 #11 State, #36 National) vs.
St. Mary’s Rams (16-2 #3, #11) 530pm
St. Mary’s MLK Showcase (Stockton, CA)
The Fighting Frogs should be at full strength (barring any injuries) going into today’s marquee match-up against national powerhouse St. Mary’s. 6’9 Stretch 4 Andrea Aquino – the number 7 player in the State of Cali’ per ESPN, is back on deck, after having to sit the first 18 games of the season due to CIF transfer rules. The Oregon State commit holds a 5 Star, 98 rating per ESPN and rightfully so, with skill-sets that allow her to handle the rock in the back court to break a press, or turn, face, and go to work on the block. Her game is so versatile that Ribet Academy has a great chance of surprising St Mary’s, who’ll have home court advantage and tourney momentum, defeating national power Centennial of Las Vegas by a score of 78-61 Saturday, January 13, 2018. Ribet Academy went to work in their Game 1 Saturday as well, defeating Heritage 60-44. Tip off is set for 5:30pm. You may want to drive out and check this one out for yourself.

Mission Bay (16-3, #25 State Rank)
vs Orange Lutheran 7pm
Olu Hoopfest
Orange Lutheran High
Maybe not so much of a marquee match-up but it’s always nice when a team comes to Socal to visit – with the intent of going to work in someone else’s backyard. San Diego Mission Bay comes to town to do just that, with enough pieces to be special. Having seen them on the final day of Tourney play of the 2017 Torrey Pines Holiday Classic this past December in San Diego, and getting a glimpse of Rejean ‘Boogie’ Ellis shot call at the PG position, it’s going to be entertaining as well as a chance for this young man to shine – having somewhat of a coming out party for us socal folks. Olu comes in with an 8-10 record, going 5-5 in their last 10. Let’s hope Olu can ‘turn up’ and make a game of it, making sure Boogie doesn’t do too much dancing on their home court, on MLK Day.
Harvard Westlake vs Centennial (Las Vegas)
St. Mary’s MLK Tourney – Stockton (CA)
10:00am
Wondering if the wonder twin duo of Jayda and Jayla Ruffus-Milner are healthy and the lady Wolverines are at full strength for this marquee match up, pitting nationally ranked #12 Harvard Westlake against the #1 ranked team in the State of Nevada. Centennial comes in with a chip on their shoulder. After losing to St Mary’s Saturday, by a score of 78-61, it’s safe to say that they don’t want to lose to two CA teams to celebrate the MLK weekend. Having had a good night sleep and a day of practice to ponder their loss, look for Centennial to come out firing on all cylinders. Harvard Westlake has the nucleus to defeat any opposing team, as the twins continue to be special, allowing their younger players to feed off of their super powers. Should be a great barometer seeing how Harvard Westlake competes against a national power on a big stage.

Bishop Montgomery vs Bingham(UT)
Salt Lake Community College 6pm
Bishop Montgomery hits the road after silencing any critics about who’s the Boss Hog in Sunny Southern California. Slaying all dragons thus far on their way to being special. The Knights come in hands down as the #1 Team in the State of CA (#3 Nationally) with an undefeated record of 16-0. Don’t know too much about their opponent or anything about the logistics of their trip today. We do know that the Knights will come out ready to play, with their games faces on, as Coach Doug Mitchell prepares his troops like no other. So whatever team they’ll be facing, rest assured the Knights will be ready to play.

Bishop Gorman vs Sierra Canyon 530pm
Coronado High Las Vegas
MLK Showcase
Great chance for Cassius Sanely and co. to step out and showcase their talents on a big stage. Not that we don’t know what The Trailblazers bring to the table, but it will be nice to see them match up against the recent 2017 Champions of the Tarkanian Classic Platinum Division – who boast Washington Commit Jamal Bey and a few other pieces that look D1 ready. Should give Sierra Canyon and Head Coach Andre Chevalier chances to draw something up and pull a few rabbits out of his hat – allowing us to evaluate the play of Lil Scotty, D. Wash, and K. Mart against another Elite program, both vying for national player recognition.
