Let’s take a look at a couple of studs making a case for themselves.
Ian Martinez 6’3 So Guard
Cantwell Sacred Heart
Class of 2020
Explosive player who uses his athletic ability on both ends of the floor. Can block shots and/or disrupt the tempo of the game with his superior leaping ability and good length. Slashes to the bucket and finishes with the shake and bake or tomahawk dunk. 3pt to mid-range game (pull-up and off the dribble) among the best of his class. Solid handles but will need to continue to polish his ball handling skills to become an elite prospect. Unselfish team play. Good vision and decision making skills. High IQ. Kid does things effortlessly which is why we are a bit concerned he may be taking his skills for granted, at this point in his development. Stay humble young soldier and continue to grind – developing your God given talents. Has the potential to be one of the best guards in his class.
Ziaire Williams 6-7 / 190, G, F
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame
Class of 2020
Nice looking prospect who’s developing very well and seems to be benefiting from staying patient and playing as a unit with his teammates. Nice spot up shooter but can also stop and pop from mid range and beyond the arc. Will need to continue working on his overall quickness, lateral movement, and defensive presence. Adequate ball handling skills allow him to have some say so when taking defenders to the rack. Bit of a thin frame so no eating at this point down low. No recognizable post presence at this stage in his game. Likes to keep teammates involved throughout the course of the game with his contagious, unselfish play. Plyometrics would help at this point, as he doesn’t play above the rim and lacks elite explosiveness. Weight room should be a focal point as well as continuing to develop his killer instinct.
