Sierra Canyon Takes La Canada Tourney ‘Ship

Big Boys on a big a stage.  It went down Saturday Night during the La Canada Tourney Championship Game on the campus of La Canada High School.  Sierra Canyon proved to be soldier boys, as they looked impressive during their 81-76 victory over a well coached Damien team. Jr. Forward KJ Martin, Sr. PG Duane Washington, and Jr. PG Scottie Pippen Jr., lived up to the hype, giving fans what they want…good basketball.  Sierra Canyon was able to use a mix of flashy plays coupled with swag, from having so many battle tested studs, eventually overcoming the storm opposed by Damien and their veteran ball club.  Damien was no slouch, giving us a great look at what will be a championship caliber team by seasons end.

#4 Kenyon Martin Jr. 6-7 / 195, F is shaping into a beast.  Similar to his dads game, this young man creates havoc around the bucket with his defensive presence and ability to protect the rim.  He then has the uncanny ability to play above the rim on the offensive end, giving us breath-taking dunks and high flying wizardry.  I know it’s a bit early, but we can’t wait to see him on the AAU Circuit come Summer 2018 – where you truly gauge the level of your play – to a certain extent.

Don’t sleep on Damien.  These young man are getting great tutelage under their head coach Michael LeDuc and his coaching staff , who devised a game plan as was able to give Sierra Canyon all they could handle – and then some.  Looking very good running their offensive sets, playing at a high level, matching Sierra Canyon’s intensity, as well as showing poise on a big stage.  Although it was an L, at the end of the day, Damian will be a much better team and, will be licking their chops, if the two meet again.
