With high school hoops just a couple of weeks away, teams are getting ready to gear up and go to battle. Unfortunately, some teams are nursing key injuries and might not be at full strength at the start of the season. We were at the St. John Bosco Fall league and noticed that Bishop Montgomery were without two of their top players. Jordan Schakel – who has committed to San Diego State – was nursing an undisclosed injury and didn’t play. We also noticed that highly touted Jr. David Singleton was in a boot – definitely decreasing his chances of being healthy for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
With that being said, it’s time for players to step their game up and play at a high level until their counterparts are well. 6’4 Combo Guard Ethan Thompson will be able to shoulder the burden and keep the Knights in contention, that’s for sure. He possesses all the skills needed to be a cold assassin and lead his team to victory many of nights. It will be interesting to see how this young man steps up to the plate and keeps his team glued together until help arrives. After speaking to David’s mom, she’s not sure David will be back until January of 2017. That may be a blessing in disguise – giving Singleton a chance to view the game from the bench and become a student of the game as well as allowing other player to step their game up and gain valuable playing time – which might come in handy this year as teams are showing depth on their rosters, with some clubs showing the capability of going 10 deep on any night.
Here are some clips of BM vs Poly as they look for Ethan Thompson to be a jack of all trades out there on the court. Other players are getting valuable minutes. That could mean a deep roster for Bishop Montgomery come playoff time.
Become great at what you do.
