2016 Maranatha Summer Block Party

Look for Chino Hills to develop its own identity now that Baik and Zo have moved on to greener pastures.  Image by PopScout.

The 2016 Maranatha Summer Block Party – hosted by Coach Tucker and Maranatha High –  starts today, June 20th and runs until Saturday, June 25, 2016.  It looks to be another star-studded field of high school teams, many of whom will be contenders when it’s all said and done, for the upcoming 2016-17 season.  Chino Hills will get its first test of life, without not only Mc.Donald’s All American Lonzo Ball (UCLA), but also without Coach of the year Steve Baik – who’s moved on to coach Fairfax High (Los Angeles).  It’ll  be interesting to see  how Fairfax High (Los Angeles) develops their schemes without their longtime coach Harvey Kitani and Baik now at the helm – this time without any Balls (brothers that is).  It’s just summer ball boys and girls but the atmosphere is heating up, literally, as temperatures should reach 100 plus degrees this week in Pasadena.  Let’s hope the games get hot and steamy on the court as well – segueing to great championship basketball for the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Take a look at the schedule above for games being played Monday and Tuesday (June 20-21) at Maranatha High School. Looks to be some intriguing match-ups and a host of quality teams participating in this years’ tourney.  Chino Hills won it all last year, so it’ll be very interesting to see who will be crowned “King of Summer” on the Cali High School Hoops Summer Circuit, for the first major summer hoops tourney. Not to take anything away from the Demar Derozen’s  annual tourney, held this past week at Compton High. PopScout will be on hand  – providing action shots, Mixtapes, and game recaps.

Become great at what you do.
