Compton Magic – Adidas Gauntlet Series

The Compton Magic AAU Basketball club held its annual Memorial Day Weekend tourney –  only this time true “pop your collar”  bragging rights were at hand… as well as plane tickets. Champions in the 17u and 16u divisions punched their tickets to the Adidas Gauntlet Finale, being held in South Carolina  July 6-9, 2016 .  It was a chance to fine tune your game – as a player and a club as a whole –  ultimately placing yourself as a contender on the Adidas AAU summer circuit.

It’s interesting to see each year which CA clubs will showcase quality, skilled players.  We know that staple clubs such as the Cal Supremes and Compton Magics will reload each year, but who else is showcasing good players?  Interestingly enough, many of the big name clubs such as Cal Supreme, Big Ballers, and Compton Magic were knocked off in earlier games, which took some of the luster out of the championship match-ups.  At the end of the day, basketball junkies (and fans) want to see the big name clubs contend and represent on the big stage.

On a bright note, it was a joy to see each court with a 3 team referee unit.  The refs were in shape and ran to get into position to make calls – limiting most of the small talk usually directed towards them.  It shows one thing about the make-up of the Adidas Gauntlet series  – they care about the quality of play at their tournaments.  Something to consider tournament directors as well as referee units –  let’s all turn up and become great at what you do.

Become great at what you do.
