If your club is looking for alternate tournaments this summer, then you may want to check out JAG AAU, which is run by former McDonald’s All-American Jelani Gardner. Pasadena City College was the site on April 30-May 1, 2016. A few good clubs stood out such as Cal Supreme, VT Elite, Rising Stars (former Chaminade Coach and current St. Francis coach Todd Wolfson) and a club out of Vegas called Unit One – just to name a few. PopScout provided on the spot printing and DVD’s shortly after the game – while coach was still giving his post game speech – so you didn’t have to wait too long to get your fix. Parking at Pasadena CC for the weekend was only 2 bucks and unfortunately, there’s no way of getting around admission, which was $10, because of the rising gym costs tournament directors are facing.

At the end of the day, we really enjoyed the professionalism of the JAG/ARC/ Pasadena City College staff and got a chance to take in some good games as well. We also had a chance to speak to long time Socal bball legend Rich Goldberg who runs ARC. Class act indeed. It was fun to be around a legend of the game and founder of the longest running league in Southern Cali – as well as talk x’s and o’s with a former McDonald’s All-American in Jelani Gardner. Knowledge is power you feel me.

HypeHoops’ shootouts and tourney’s provide clubs an opportunity to test their skillsets before jumping into deep waters. They offer weekly shootouts where you can pay per game and see where your club deficiencies are without breaking the bank. PopScout feels this is a great way for a club to work on areas of improvement, develop team chemistry, and avoid massive losses that may lower the confidence of up and coming players. Check out hypehoops.net. They have a 2 day “King of Spring” Shootout running May 21-22, 2016 and another Summer Shootout scheduled June 12, 2016. We enjoy the level of growth clubs are making under the HypeHoops umbrella.
Here a few clips of Unit One out of Las Vegas, NV who showed out at the Jelani Gardner – JAG/ARC event held April 30-May 1, 2016. PopScout looks forward to players who truly work on their game. You have to show a level of growth and not shy away from your weaknesses. Get out there and log some gym hours young soldiers…it shows on game day who has been naughty or nice.
