Crespi (30-4, 10-2) was able to hold off a pesky Inglewood squad and advance to tonight’s DI regional state playoff match-up against St. Augustine (24-7, 10-2) of San Diego. Crespi was given all they could handle by the Sentinels – who tried to intimidate Crespi on and off the court. Inglewood tried to bang during the first half with their bigs and muscle their way to a win. The Sentinels brought double cheerleaders and their band to the game, taking up much of the bleachers on one side, and were also on the other side of Crespi’s gym, cheering and dancing in the stands. You could literally hear the cheer squad and band throughout the entire game rooting for Inglewood. Word on the street, some would say, is that Crespi is a bit ‘soft’ – considering the make up of their team – and the fact that they play out of Encino, CA. Inglewood tried to take advantage of this as well as Crespi’s lack of size in the paint. Crespi definitely showed what they’re made of by bouncing back from a half time deficit to take control late in the forth quarter. De’Anthony Melton is a stud for sure – but the supporting cast really had his back. Shouts out to Taj Regans for knocking down some early threes to keep Crespi close in the first half. We liked Regans’ competitiveness throughout the game – showing the ability to go toe to toe with Inglewoods’ savvy point guard, Mr. Gomez.
On another note, Crespi PG Brandon Williams (Class of 2018) will be a Dapper Dandy and showed why he should be on everyone’s radar watch. He stepped up to the plate – shook off a slow shooting night – and drained some key shots during Crespi’s decisive 4th quarter run. Should be a great match-up tonight (March 15, 2016) when Crespi plays host to St. Augustine – 7pm, Crespi High. PopScout had a chance to see St. Augustine play Alemany (Jan.9,2016 ) in the Sierra Canyon Showcase. Although Alemany came away with the win, St. Augustine brings a lot of poise, leadership, and fire power to the table, so it’ll definitely be a great match up – one that’s not guaranteed folks.
Crespi will have to bring all the bells and whistles to stop St. Augustine and advance to the State DI Regional Final, which will be played Saturday March 19, 2016 at The Pyramid in Long Beach, CA. At the end of the day, look for Crespi to advance but let’s see who will bring their A game tonight. Unfortunately, somebody’s going home fishing.
Take a look at a few plays from the Inglewood vs Crespi game – March 13, 2016.
Become great at what you do. On and off the court.
