Sierra Canyon muscled its way to victory against Bishop Montgomery Friday night to make it official.  Chino Hills vs Sierra Canyon for the Open Division Crown –  and bragging rights on the West Coast California HS Hoops Circuit  The game was played at Simi Valley High, but the neutral court had no effect on either squad.  Both teams came out shooting red hot and testing each others’ will  – on both ends of the court.  At the end of the day, Sierra Canyon had too many weapons that would not allow Bishop Montgomery any breathing room.

SC played tough man to man defense all night – which is usually the mantra of Bishop Montgomery. 6’9  Jr. Cody Riley of Sierra Canyon was nice, stepping out several times to  drain a couple of three pointers – then showing the ability to control the paint on the defensive end – grabbin’ boards and blockin’ shots.  Yes Sir.

We were also happy to see some additional sets run for Cody – who can dominate the paint with his skillsets,  presence, and very good feel for the game.  Cody also stepped out a few times behind the arc –  showing his “smooth as a baby’s booty” shooting stroke from 3pt range. The kid is a Dapper Dandy and will give Chino Hills’ big men all they can handle.

SC’s guards toned it down a bit and were not too overly aggressive  – which would usually lead to transition buckets for the other squad.  They had their thinking caps on tonight – running the offense to perfection.  Everyone contributed who played for SC.  As a player, that usually leaves a good taste in your mouth and keeps the love of the game alive.  Look for Sierra Canyon to give Chino Hills all they can handle when the two meet for the CIF SS Open Division Crown.
