Small things definitely come in big packages when you refer to 2016 Senior PG Shaquille Dawkins out of Alemany High,CA. He carried his team this year to a remarkable run. Shacquille might only stand 5’9 but his stature is of a 7 footer. It was also a joy to see a kid not leave Alemany who was a school known for kids skipping town and migrating to other campuses. Sometimes the grass is not always greaner on the other side.
We are a bit concerned at this point that Shacquille has not received a lot of offers – primarily because of his size. I would definitely take a chance on this young man who shows character, grit, and can shoot the lights out from the three point range. He still needs to tighten up his ball handling and other assets of his game but at the end of the day, its a no-brainer for a D1 school to scoop him up.
Alemany will host Inglewood High this Friday, February 19, 2016 in the first round of the California CIF Open Division Playoffs. The coaching staff from both squads should be on their game as well. They have great coaches from Inglewood as well as Alemany so it should be a great match up in terms of strategy and preparing their clubs to win. Don’t sleep on Inglewood. They have some great guards and a few bigs that will challenge Alemany and their Mission League 2016 Championship squad. It should go down to the wire with Alemany pulling it out, primarily because of their home court advantage. Good luck to both squads – who automatically get bids for the state playoff run and the consolation Open division bracket.
