The Chaminade Girls basketball team is having an impressive 2015-16 season. Maxpreps has them slated as the #2 team in the State of CA -sitting at #9 nationally. With a record of 13-2, it doesn’t seem as though they will be dropping many more losses anytime soon. The team has two standout players (and do we mean standout) in 6’1 Senior Guards Leonna Odom, Duke Signee – and Valerie Higgins, who has committed to USC.

Valerie Higgins is a very nice prospect with advanced skill-sets and very good patience on the court. I was a bit concerned about her work ethic and motor – because she is so smooth – sometimes you think she is taking a play off. But the ESPN 5 star recruit is always on the positive side of possessions and appears to be a very good role model for her teammates to follow. USC has definitely landed a Dapper Dandy indeed !

Leaonna Odom is in a class by herself. The Duke Signee can do it all. She has a real flashy game – shoots the rock from all ranges, plays solid defense, superior passer and gets her teammates involved, which in turn makes everyone around her better. She also doesn’t back down to pressure and seems to look at her best during big games.
During the championship game, the Senior showed a myriad of skill-sets that will – if she continues to excel at her game – propel her to the WNBA and/or Overseas once she finishes her career at Duke. If there was ever a one and done in High School Girls basketball then she would be it. Look out Connecticut, you really missed out on this young soldier and it may come back to bite.
It looks as though Chaminade is set to make a serious run for a CIF State Title.
PopScout quietly watching young soldiers do what they do for nothing more than the love of the game.
