The Georgia Stars AAU Club was able to win both the 2015 Nike Peach Jam as well as the Las Vegas BigFootHoops summer tournaments to end the AAU circuit with an impressive showing. The team is lead by Jr. Wendell Carter(#34) who stands 6’10 and 250lbs. He has skills sets similar to a guard but can bang with the best of them. I really would like to see him go against Cody Riley of Sierra Canyon. I spoke with his dad, Carter Sr. who said he started his son off young – being able to use both hands and be good at all aspects of the game. BTW…dad stands 6’6 and mom is 6’5.

The point guard on the team was the glue of the squad. Jared Harper, who has committed to Auburn, showed poise and a knack for handling the rock in pressure situations. He was definitely an extension of the head coach. I was wondering before each game if this guy could handle the pressure of game situations at this high level of play but he definitely proved me wrong. Time after time he made great plays and his decision making is off the charts. Little to no turnovers and very high basketball IQ as well.

The team was also anchored in the middle by 7’0 280lbs Udoka Azubuike (#22). He has some developing to do but look for this big man to make some noise in college. He works hard and never takes a play off. Plays with a mean streak and had a great upside. Must work on his footwork and developing his skill sets as a scorer but definitely a high D1 recruit.

It was a great way to end the summer – seeing the AAU cream of the crop teams play in Vegas with teams like the Oakland Soldiers, Mac Irvin Fire (Chicago), Cal Supreme (CA), Elfrid Payton Elite (Louisiana), Seattle Rotary, and many others go head to head. It definitely was a great showing. Well, it’s time to get in the lab and make some mixtapes from all the dunks and great plays.
